Penthouse — The Legend
(well, sort of at least)
Penthouse as a Brand started in the United Kingdom in 1965, before bopping back over to America just in time to publish the September, 1969 issue. For a more fun and illustrated history of our founder Bob Guccione, you may look here. (For a fascinating look at what advertisements used to be perfectly fine 40+ years ago, whine at the executives to finish up that complete archives project we’ve been working on. That’s what we do.) … Now as to the necessary legal stuff. …
PERSONAL DATA — The WHAT and WHY
Cookies
When you visit our site, it generates a unique ID and stores it in a “cookie” on your browser in order to facilitate your shopping experience. This information comes in hand to track repeat visits to the Site, measure which portions of the site people visit most, things like that. It most definitely does not contain any of your personal information — even if you place an order. This tiny note will last for one year unless you delete it (or your browser does that automatically for you).
Analytics
If we can see it, we use your IP addresses, device data, and other technical information exclusively in order to optimize our site for now and future use. Your usage history may also be used to help our internal algorithm to recommend other Site users and/or content to you. (Consequently, if you turn off cookies, you may have trouble shopping, and we won’t be much help either.)
DATA SHARING — Who DATA?
When you access PenthouseMerch, you consent to our processing and retention of your data necessary for the store to function properly. With any luck, we will be able to use this data for developing new services and products related to the service located her (and, y'know, as otherwise provided in this Policy). We use all information collected specifically for maintaining and operating this service.
The Site may provide message boards, reviews and other user-generated content facilities. “Public Information” includes anything that you share through any of these means, including your username. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
PENTHOUSE NEVER SHARES OR SELLS YOUR DATA TO ANY OUTSIDE SOURCE. We do, however, reserve the right to share any and all account information with law enforcement or agencies authorized by applicable governmental authorities either in response to their written request or at our own election should we believe, in our sole discretion, that you may be involved with illegal activity, or if we believe, in our sole discretion, that such disclosure is necessary to protect the rights or property of the Site, our users, and/or one or more third parties.
DATA RETENTION — Why DATA?
If you leave a comment, we retain the comment and its metadata indefinitely. We do this so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register to purchase and track their order, we also store the personal information provided in a user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
DATA RIGHTS — You DATA?
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, accounting, or security purposes. To enhance our level of fraud prevention, in order to request your account be deleted you must be able to log into your account.
INFORMATION LIMITS
We do not (and as a practical matter cannot) control any third party’s use of public information. You should always be careful when deciding to disclose personal information either through any online website. Any information you may send to us or share either publicly or privately through any third-party website will not be controlled by this Privacy Policy.
We may use third party services to assist with fraud prevention and enforcing protections we have placed on PenthouseMerch. These third parties may ask to receive certain information like your device identification information and IP address. As stated earlier we use any more specific cookie data for analysis purposes to learn how everyone interacts with our Site in order to improve both it and our Service.
CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time in accordance with this provision. However, if we make changes, we will post the revised Privacy Policy here on the Website and change the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page in order to help make it easier for you to keep track.
